In 2026, manufacturers are presenting motorhomes and caravans as high-tech, self-sufficient living spaces rather than mere vacation vehicles. Kia introduces an electric or hybrid camper van with a modular interior starting at $68,000. AC Future launches a caravan with slide-out walls expanding the area to 32 m², a proprietary 100 kWh battery, and an air-to-water system priced from $148,000. These models signify a shift towards active energy generation and are positioned as alternatives to conventional housing.

The German automobile club ADAC reports a shift towards affordable and lightweight camping solutions. Manufacturers are introducing basic motorhomes starting from 40,000 euros and ultra-lightweight travel trailers for electric cars weighing from 775 kg. Modular vans and inflatable equipment, including kitchens, are emerging. New EU regulations allow driving vehicles up to 4.25 tons with a standard car driving license.

Hyundai has revealed the Staria Camper EV electric motorhome at the CMT show in Stuttgart. The vehicle features an 800-volt architecture for rapid charging and integrated solar panels to power onboard systems. The company targets a launch around 2026, but a final decision on series production is still pending.
