Australian caravan and motorhome buyers are losing deposits after a series of manufacturer insolvencies. Deloitte senior liquidator Richard Hughes said there are no guarantees of getting money back and advised against paying in cash. ASIC data shows 97 per cent of creditors in most small to medium-sized corporate insolvencies receive between 0 and 11 cents in the dollar. Credit card payments can be disputed through a chargeback request lodged with the customer's bank, subject to time limits. Caravanning Queensland recommends a 10 per cent deposit with the balance paid on handover.
