In Brief

Several new products for car camping have emerged: the Mohab Altus hard-shell tent with electric lift, the lightweight Alaskan HS640 camper, the self-assembling Air Cruiser tent, and the foldable Camp Tonneau Tent

The car camping market has been enriched with innovative solutions that simplify setup and enhance comfort.

Mohab Altus — quick-deploy hard-shell rooftop tent

The tent features an electric lift that raises it from 8.7 to 45 inches in under 60 seconds. Two models are available: Standard (93x54 inches, 120 kg) and XL (101x54 inches, 125 kg), both made of aluminum alloy and PET panels. Manual deployment is also possible. Prices start at $5,139 for Standard and $5,449 for XL with a pickup truck rack.

Alaskan HS640 — lightweight pickup camper

Alaskan Campers introduced the HS640 model with a fixed roof. The camper weighs about 544 kg, 159 kg lighter than other brand models, and is designed for pickups with a 2-meter bed. The base package is priced at $44,995.

Air Cruiser — self-assembling rooftop tent

The Air Cruiser tent, presented on Kickstarter, unfolds automatically. It weighs 36 kg, has a ceiling height of 144 cm, and sets up in under three minutes. The manufacturer claims compatibility with 99% of vehicles.

Camp Tonneau Tent — pickup tonneau cover camper

A prototype of a foldable structure combining a protective bed cover and a camper has been introduced. Weighing 36–45 kg, it deploys in 90 seconds, using the truck bed as living space. The Kickstarter early-bird price is $1,899, retail from $3,149. Deliveries are planned from January 2027.

High Court injunction halts unauthorised caravan site near traveller community in Cambridgeshire

The High Court of England has granted a temporary injunction against the construction of a residential caravan site on land adjacent to a traveller community in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire. Work to lay hardstanding and erect fencing began over the bank holiday weekend of May 23–24 without planning permission. The injunction, obtained by South Cambridgeshire District Council, also prohibits the stationing of caravans or mobile homes on the site, which lies within the Cambridge Green Belt. The council suspects the work was timed to coincide with office closures and plans to seek further hearings.

New Cheshire holiday park fully booked after opening

Ty Gwyn, a North Wales holiday park operator, reported that all lodges, caravans, and touring pitches at its new Fishpool Holiday Park in Delamere, Cheshire, were booked for the first two weeks of May. The opening followed the site's acquisition and two months of renovations, including new lodges and caravans, landscaping, and a dog walk. The company attributes high demand to UK holidaymakers choosing domestic trips due to foreign travel uncertainty and cost-of-living concerns. Some lodges are solar-powered, and an EV charging station is available on site.

Sturgeon questioned over campervan and fountain pen after Murrell conviction

A Dunfermline resident claimed he saw the then first minister in a supermarket in 2022, near the house where a £124,550 campervan was parked. Nicola Sturgeon insists she only learned of the vehicle's existence in early 2023, when it featured in a police investigation. Her husband Peter Murrell pleaded guilty to embezzling over £400,000 from the SNP, with funds used to purchase the campervan and luxury items, including Montblanc pens.
