On June 28, 2026, around 1 p.m., a 35-year-old driver of an Audi A4 rear-ended a campervan on the A9 motorway near Lauf an der Pegnitz (Nürnberger Land district, Bavaria). According to police, the campervan, driven by a 69-year-old man, lost control, hit a concrete barrier and overturned, coming to rest on its side.
Casualties
Three people were injured: the Audi driver (35), the campervan driver (69) and his 66-year-old passenger. Firefighters had to extricate the passenger from the overturned vehicle. All three were taken to hospitals.
Aftermath
Both vehicles were not drivable and had to be towed. The motorway towards Munich was fully closed; traffic resumed after 3 p.m., initially on one lane. A multi-kilometer traffic jam formed. The cause of the collision remains unclear.
