Thieves steal three caravans in one night from village

The owner of Avon Riverside Caravan Park has submitted a new planning application to Wychavon District Council to extend the permitted occupancy period from nine to eleven months per year. The previous application was rejected due to an incorrect consent type. Public consultation runs until August 21.

European Consumer Claims (ECC) has analysed thousands of complaints from owners of lodges and caravans in UK holiday parks and identified typical stages where problems arise. These include inflated running costs, restrictions on resale, and low buy-back offers from the park. ECC is calling for specific legislation to protect buyers.

Somerset Council's planning committee unanimously voted to allow the expansion of the Cutters Combe touring caravan site between Bridgwater and the Quantock Hills. The site, originally approved for five touring caravans or campervans in 2024, doubled in size without planning permission. Enmore Parish Council objected, citing "flagrant disregard for planning policy," but the committee deemed the proposal "sensible and proportional." Because the plans are retrospective, the development is exempt from the 10% biodiversity net gain requirement.

Guy Williams, a former surveyor from Bristol, founded The Fat Pony Workshop and converted a 2002 Ford Iveco Cargo truck into a modular camper with a jacuzzi. The truck was purchased for £5,500, and the finished camper is valued at around £40,000. It features a bedroom with bunk beds, a kitchen with gas hob and fridge, a toilet with composting toilet, and a convertible living area that transforms into a bedroom with a double bed and a spa area with a whirlpool bath. The camper sleeps four and is equipped with a 250-liter water tank and a 230 Ah battery.
