In Withersfield, Suffolk, a fire that started in a field spread to a residential property, a caravan and adjoining garages. The alarm was raised on Queen Street shortly after 13:00 on Wednesday. Six fire crews from Suffolk and two from Essex are at the scene, including teams from Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Clare, Newmarket and Long Melford.
An oil tank and gas cylinders pose an additional threat. Police have closed the road, and UK Power Networks has been notified. Firefighters are using breathing apparatus and hose reels, with a water carrier and an emergency rescue vehicle from Newmarket also called in. According to Suffolk News, firefighters protected the home by surrounding it and bringing the fire under control; no injuries have been reported. Residents are advised to avoid the area.
