In late May 2026 in Montrose, Colorado, a motorhome driver mistakenly emptied their toilet into an underground diesel tank at a Maverik gas station during the Memorial Day weekend. As a result, up to 76,000 liters of diesel fuel were contaminated and deemed unsellable. All diesel pumps were shut down, and the fuel had to be pumped out and treated as waste. A free dump station for motorhomes was available nearby, but the driver used a technical access hatch instead. A similar contamination incident was reported in Canada in 2020.
