A scam involving the sale of motorhomes via Facebook Marketplace has been uncovered in southern Sweden. According to Helsingborgs Dagblad, 20 people fell victim to a fictitious listing for a motorhome priced at 42,000 kronor. One victim, a 70-year-old man, paid a deposit of 15,000 kronor and then another 10,000 kronor after the seller claimed other buyers were interested. The actual owner of the vehicle said it was not for sale.
Buyers transferred deposits, in some cases exceeding 35,000 kronor, to a Swish number belonging to a 35-year-old woman. The woman claimed she was forced to act as a straw person to repay a drug-related debt. She was convicted of money laundering and received a suspended sentence and a fine.
