Around sixty caravans illegally occupied the Salines paid parking lot in La Rochelle on August 30, 2026, after cutting down a tree to gain access. According to INF La Rochelle, municipal police were present and issued fines to some occupants. Illegal electrical connections were also made. In early June, the municipality had installed a security gate at the entrance to the 1,000-space lot, which normally restricts vehicles over 2 meters tall, but it did not deter the caravans.
