An Amtrak train struck an Airstreamⓘ camper Friday morning in east Minot, North Dakota, at a railroad crossing on 27th Street Southeast, according to the Minot Police Department. Two adults from Rhode Island in the pickup truck pulling the trailer were uninjured. The train stopped and later continued after inspection. Police and firefighters helped retrieve personal belongings from the trailer. BNSF Railway is organizing cleanup of the scene.
The camper was heading to the international Airstream rally starting Saturday evening, with about 2,000 people expected. Visit Minot is assisting the victims by covering part of their hotel stay and collecting essential items. The Airstream Club International, holding the rally at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, thanked first responders and expressed support for those affected.
