The motorhome stopover at Salzgittersee will close temporarily from 21 September 2026 for refurbishment. The operator Bäder, Sport und Freizeit GmbH announced the closure. Much of the site's technical equipment dates back to 2009, and the infrastructure has not had a major overhaul since. After more than 15 years, the site is to receive a substantial upgrade.
New operator and supply station
Camping Car Park GmbH is taking over management of the stopover. Together with those responsible, it will develop the site further and make it more attractive in the long term. A key part of the modernisation is a planned new supply and waste station, which will give motorhome guests a modern and reliable way to fill up and dispose of waste.
The stopover sits directly beside the popular Salzgittersee recreation area. The lake offers walks, cycle routes and other leisure activities, and the centre of Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and other destinations in Salzgitter are easy to reach from there.
While the site is closed, motorhomers in the region have alternatives, including parking in Braunschweig and Wolfenbüttel and at the Thermalsolbad in Salzgitter-Bad (Parkallee 3, 38259 Salzgitter). It is not yet finally clear how long the works will last or when the stopover will reopen. Information on construction progress, further measures and the reopening date is to be published on the Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH website and on the city of Salzgitter's site.
