The City of Cape Town has confirmed that planning has started for the future development of Hardekraaltjie Caravan Park in Bellville. The property has been formally designated for a sporting facility intended to benefit the surrounding community. City spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo said no heritage impact assessment has been undertaken at this stage, and the need for one will be considered during planning and approval processes. Residents are campaigning to preserve the park and its mature trees, whose future has not been determined. The City says current occupation of the property is preventing progress; occupants were given until 26 July to vacate but remain at the park.
