Interest in converting retired buses into homes continues to grow. Three recent projects showcase different approaches — from minimalism to luxury.

Budget farm home

A British couple bought a retired city bus for £1,300 and spent a year converting it into a stationary home on a farm. Total costs were about £13,300. The owners avoided complex engineering systems and a full bathroom, focusing on open space.

Luxury tour bus

Cuban singer Camilo and his wife Eva Luna rented a 14-meter double-decker bus for their tour of Spain. It features 18 separate sleeping berths, a panoramic living room, and voice control. Similar buses in the US CAN cost from €500,000 to over €1,000,000.

Motorhome with a pool

A Brazilian couple fully converted a bus into a living motorhome with a kitchen, bedroom, and living room. Outside, they installed a deck with a pool, and solar panels on the roof provide energy independence.

Brazil introduces environmental fee for tourist vehicles entering Porto Seguro

Starting June 15, 2026, the Brazilian city of Porto Seguro (Bahia state) will charge an environmental protection fee (TPA) for incoming vehicles. The measure was approved by Mayor Jânio Natal in November 2025 and applies to the main urban area as well as the tourist districts of Trancoso and Arraial d’Ajuda. The fee is collected via automatic license plate recognition, without toll booths. Vehicles staying less than 8 hours are exempt, except rental cars. Residents of Porto Seguro and neighboring municipalities (50% discount) are also exempt. Non-payment results in a 50% surcharge. In 2025, the city received about 1.4 million tourists.
