Ellen Louise Ross, of Ferryhill Station, has been ordered to pay a fine and costs totaling £746 after being found guilty of abandoning a caravan on land in Ferryhill, County Durham, without lawful authority. The case was heard at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on June 10, where Ross did not attend and the case was proved in absence. The court found that on or about October 16, 2025, Ross abandoned a caravan on land at Mills Buildings, Ferryhill, contrary to the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978. The fine was set at £440, with a £176 surcharge to fund victim services and £130 in court costs, totaling £746, which must be paid by July 8. The case was brought by Durham County Council.
