Dorset Volksfest 2026

Dorset Volksfest is a three-day air-cooled Volkswagen festival held in Wareham, a charming medieval market town on the edge of the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. At least 50% of vehicles are air-cooled classics — split-screen Buses, bay-window Buses, Type 3 fastbacks, Karmann Ghias, and vintage Beetles — making it a true celebration of the air-cooled Volkswagen world set against the backdrop of Dorset's outstanding natural beauty.

Wareham lies between the heathlands of Thomas Hardy country and Poole Harbour, with the Purbeck Hills and the coast within easy reach. The July timing, the Dorset countryside, and the passionate VW community make Dorset Volksfest one of the most loved regional VW events in the South West of England.

BMC issues guidelines for responsible wild camping and vanlife

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) has released a series of advice codes and films under the #RespectTheWild campaign. The guidelines cover leave-no-trace principles for mountain camping and vanlife: choosing remote sites, staying one night only, banning campfires, and properly disposing of human waste. The advice emphasizes self-containment and minimizing environmental impact.

Council to increase caravan fees

BCP Council will raise licence fees for owners of caravan sites in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from 1 October. The increase applies to 21 residential sites, grouped into five bands based on the number of mobile homes. For the smallest sites (up to 10 homes), annual charges rise from £192 to £200; for the largest (up to 142 homes), from £383 to £398. Fees for licence transfers and operator assessments will also increase. The council noted there is little regulation to prevent costs being passed on to residents.
