Volksweald 2026

Volksweald is a celebrated three-day air-cooled Volkswagen camping festival held at the stunning grounds of Penshurst Place in Kent — one of England's finest medieval manor houses, set in the Medway Valley in the heart of the Weald. At least 50% of the vehicles at Volksweald are air-cooled classics, making it a paradise for VW Bus, Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Type 3 enthusiasts who combine their love of vintage VWs with a summer camp in a truly historic English setting.

Penshurst Place dates to 1341 and the estate's parkland and gardens provide a magnificent backdrop for this July gathering. The event features a concours d'élégance for the finest show vehicles, a well-stocked autojumble, trade stands, live music, and the convivial camping atmosphere that has made Volksweald one of the most beloved events on the UK VW calendar.

Kia Sportage Wins Best SUV for Towing Caravans

The Kia Sportage Hybrid was named 'Best Car for Caravans up to 1500kg' at the 2026 What Car? Tow Car Awards in the UK. The HEV GT-Line S AWD variant, with a 1,510kg towing capacity and 6.4L/100km fuel economy, outperformed rivals in the compact SUV segment. Testing involved stability, handling, and emergency braking assessments with a Swift caravan loaded to 85% of the car's kerb weight. The award adds to the Sportage's strong 2026 performance, with over 21,000 UK sales year-to-date.

Stealing gas bottles from caravan costs men £1,204

Two men pleaded guilty to stealing gas bottles and a hose pipe valued at £270 from a caravan in Ingoldmells on December 12. The theft was discovered via CCTV by the owner. The court fined each man and ordered costs and compensation, totaling £1,204 per person.

BMC issues guidelines for responsible wild camping and vanlife

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) has released a series of advice codes and films under the #RespectTheWild campaign. The guidelines cover leave-no-trace principles for mountain camping and vanlife: choosing remote sites, staying one night only, banning campfires, and properly disposing of human waste. The advice emphasizes self-containment and minimizing environmental impact.
