Venice residents seek plan to remove illegally parked RVs from Washington Blvd

Joseph and Isabel Vesely of Anchorage asked the Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission on Monday, Sept. 14, to vacate Keyros Avenue, a 60-foot-wide platted right-of-way between two properties they own near Cohoe Beach Road. The owners intend to combine Tracts B2 and B3 into a unified campground and add campsites. In their application, the Veselys argued that eliminating Keyros Avenue would not cut off public access, pointing to an existing trail system and saying ATV, pedestrian, and equestrian traffic could continue reaching the state land by a route that avoids campground operations. Borough planning staff, however, determined that the alternative described in the application did not itself meet requirements for equal or superior access because replacement access must be established on land controlled by the applicants. Staff instead recommended a new 60-foot right-of-way on the plat.

Ben VanderWerf is building a village with 65 RV spots and 33 pads for tiny homes in Arriba, Colorado. He lives with his wife and four children in a 550-square-foot tiny home prototype he built in 2021. Arriba is located about 70 miles from the Kansas border off Interstate 70 in Lincoln County and has a population of 300.

ATC introduced the Pla 650 3611, a lightweight fifth-wheel toy hauler, at the 2026 Hershey RV show. The trailer measures 11.5 meters in length, has a base weight of 5,216 kg, a payload capacity of 2,041 kg, and a gross vehicle weight of 7,257 kg. It is designed to haul smaller toys such as ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles, or kayaks and can sleep up to 10 people. Pricing starts at $155,615.

A 20-foot camper trailer in Central City was destroyed by fire Saturday morning. Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters responded to 137 North Morrison after Central City police officer Brody Meigs found the camper burning behind the residence. The fire is believed to have started from a nearby brush pile fire that had spread and went unnoticed. The owner, Perry Hixenbaugh, planned to scrap the camper, although he said it had new tires he wanted to save. No one was injured.

There is no official industry standard for four-season RVs, but they can be purchased or retrofitted. Cold-weather capability requires heavy-duty insulation, HVAC and plumbing protection, and double-pane windows. In 2025, 8.1 million U.S. households owned an RV, with 16.9 million more interested in buying within five years; 28 million Americans planned holiday-season RV trips in 2025. Median annual use is 30 days, so a standard three-season RV suffices for most.

The Hunker Pod is a slide-in camper module that fits into a cargo van, converting it into a full-size camper. It costs $32,995 and is compatible exclusively with 159-inch wheelbase Ram ProMaster vans from model year 2014 or newer. Installation takes about an hour at the company's facility in Denver, Colorado, and requires no permanent modifications. The Pod is secured with bolts to the van's factory inserts, allowing it to be removed and the van returned to cargo use. Hunker says versions for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit are in development.
