In Brief

New trial parking restrictions in Saltburn, North Yorkshire, limit parking to four hours. Local businesses fear tourists will be deterred; council says it will assess the impact.

Saltburn in North Yorkshire has introduced trial parking restrictions, effective from 6 July, under a scheme by Redcar and Cleveland Council. According to one source, the restrictions apply to all vehicles on Marine Parade, limiting parking to four hours between 09:00 and 17:00. According to another, motorhomes and campervans may only park in designated spaces on the north side of Marine Parade, with a maximum stay of four hours from 9:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday, and parking is prohibited at all times on unmarked sections of both sides of the street.

Local business owners fear the restrictions will deter tourists who typically visit for the day, harming trade. The council says the measures aim to balance the needs of residents and visitors and reduce pressure on parking spaces during peak season. Residents and businesses can apply for parking permits. The council will evaluate the impact before making a final decision.
