Hallasan National Park to crack down on illegal camping and car camping

The 2026 Andong Su Festa will be held from July 25 to August 2 on the Nakdong River bank in Andong. Organized by the Korean Spirit and Culture Foundation, the event features swimming pools, water slides, water bikes, paddleboards, concerts (10CM, Kwon Jin-ah, Soyou, Secret, izna), food trucks, and a camping zone for motorhomes and tents. A shuttle boat connects the stream area to the main festival site. Operating hours are 10:00 to 21:00 daily.

Hallasan National Park on Jeju Island announced special inspections from July 24 to August 23 targeting illegal entry, camping, and car sleeping (chabak). Violators face criminal liability and fines.

A glamping park called Pocheon Glampark has opened in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, offering accommodation in 30 caravans. Located at 1925-47 Hwadong-ro, Idong-myeon, the park features modern amenities, barbecue facilities, a children's playground, a 1-km walking trail, and a pond. Stargazing and nature programs are available. The park operates year-round with parking for 50 vehicles. Caravan rental fees vary by season.

Wonju city government announced a plan to build a 26-space public parking lot for caravans on private land next to Barammori Small Park in the corporate city area. Residents filed complaints arguing the small lot would encourage illegal parking on nearby roads. The city is now reviewing whether to suspend the project due to the opposition.

Gunsan City (Jeonbuk Province) announced plans to build a pet camping site in the Geumgangho tourist zone. The project, costing 2 billion won (according to other sources — 8.4 billion won), includes 13 auto-camping spots, a dog park, toilets, and showers.

Ulleung County (North Gyeongsang Province) installed posts and barriers at entrances to popular car-camping (chabak) spots on the northern coast after a drowning incident in 2024, but did not create alternative campsites or designated camping areas. The tourism industry complains that the ban lacks supporting infrastructure. Visitor numbers to the island fell from 461,375 in 2022 to 380,522 in 2024, and by December 25, 2025, reached 346,314 — a 9% drop year-on-year. In contrast, neighboring cities Gyeongju and Pohang operate campsites and combine safety management with tourist attraction.
