Inspections of illegal campsites have begun on Kara Dere beach in Bulgaria's Varna region. Hundreds of caravans, campers and tents occupy about 50% of the beach area, which is prohibited by law. The inspection also found violations, including placement on dunes.
Offenders have been given warnings to remove their property. Repeat violations carry fines: according to one source, from 500 to 3000 leva; according to another, first from 500 to 1000 leva, then from 1500 to 3000 leva. The actions will continue until the end of the season.
