In Brief

On Skjervøy island, locals park camper vans anywhere due to lack of organised parking. The Høyre party pushes for a dedicated lot, but the project remains unrealised. Elsewhere, tourists ignore a ban on overnight parking at a truck rest stop.

On the island of Skjervøy in Norway, residents park their camper vans wherever they find a free spot due to the absence of organised parking. The Høyre party has long promoted the idea of creating a camper van parking area, but the project has not yet been implemented.

Meanwhile, camper van owners continue to spend the night at a rest stop for truck drivers, despite prohibition signs installed in March. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration warns of strict measures against violators.

Hamar introduces overnight fee for motorhomes at Furubergstranda

The municipality of Hamar has decided to introduce a nightly parking fee for motorhomes at the popular Furubergstranda site to increase turnover and address local parking shortages. The fee of 180 NOK applies from 10 PM to 8 AM and was approved on November 26 as part of the 2026–2029 action plan. The council expects the charge to reduce the number of vehicles and generate annual revenue of around 100,000 NOK, while enabling future development of the area.
