New EU rules allow category B drivers to drive heavier motorhomes

The European Union has adopted a new directive that is being gradually implemented in member states. Drivers with a category B license will be allowed to drive electric vehicles and motorhomes with a total weight of up to 4.25 tonnes. Previously, the limit was 3.5 tonnes, which posed challenges for owners of heavier models, such as the Mercedes-Benz VLE weighing 3.7 tonnes. The change aims to promote the use of electric vehicles and simplify the operation of motorhomes without requiring a category C1 license.
