What is the cheapest way to exchange money while traveling?
The best option is to withdraw cash with a multi-currency card (Wise, Revolut) from a local bank ATM. Avoid airport and hotel exchanges where the spread is 5-10%. Turkey and Georgia have plenty of 24/7 exchange offices with minimal spread; in the EU it is mostly banks and Western Union.
What is the real spread between mid-market and exchange rate?
A typical bank: 2-3% spread + 1-3 EUR commission. Wise/Revolut: 0.4-0.7% spread. Tourist-area exchange: 5-10%. Airport: 8-15%. Enable "traveler mode" in our converter — it will show the realistic amount you actually receive.
How much cash can I carry across a border?
EU, Turkey, UK: declaration required from 10,000 EUR (or equivalent). Georgia: 30,000 GEL. Russia: 10,000 USD on outbound flights. Carry proof of source of funds — they may ask at the border.
Do Russian cards work in Turkey and Georgia?
UnionPay cards from some Russian banks work selectively. Turkey accepts Mir in large chains. Georgia does not. Safer options: carry USD/EUR cash or open a Wise/Paysera card via non-resident path.
