Lightweight roof tents from 12 kg challenge classic models

Inspired Overland has introduced the TrailPeak hard-shell rooftop tent weighing approximately 84 pounds. Priced at $1,399, it is positioned as one of the lightest options in its class, broadening the range of compatible vehicles.

Which? experts tested roof tents from OEX, TentBox, Ventura, and other brands. The testing included assessment of ease of fitting and removal from roof racks, weather resistance, and interior space. All tested models are priced under £2,000.

Thule has unveiled the Widesky rooftop tent with a hard shell weighing 147 lb (about 67 kg). It opens from the rear, offering an interior height of about 46 in (117 cm) and a sleeping area of 79×51 in (201×130 cm) for two people. The sleeping area converts into a sofa using two cords. Retail price is $3,999.
