A new Borders tourist attraction is set to go-ahead on the site of a former school and Girl Guides Centre near Kelso. An application will be recommended for approval to form five pitches for touring caravans with improved track and a new gateway on land to the north and east of the Old School House at Makerstoun. The application, submitted by Duns-based The Fifth Lord Biddulph’s Trust, will come before SBC’s Planning & Building Standards Committee on Monday (August 10). Despite seven objections citing unsuitable road infrastructure and traffic safety, chief planning officer John Hayward recommended approval, stating the proposal would positively contribute to the local economy and Borders tourist industry.
