Malaysia's Ministry of Transport (MOT) stated that more than 1,450 recreational vehicles (RVs), including motorhomes, caravans and campervans, have been registered for private use in the country. The ministry confirmed that RVs are legal vehicles and can be registered and licensed by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). The government encourages the RV industry as a high-potential niche segment contributing to the automotive chain and domestic tourism. Regarding hire-purchase facilities, MOT noted that vehicle financing remains subject to commercial assessment by banks under the Hire-Purchase Act 1967 (amended 2025).
