Caravans, which became popular in France in the 1950s, are experiencing a resurgence. About 7,000 new caravans are sold annually, not counting the second-hand market. Enthusiasts value them for their freedom and lower cost compared to motorhomes and mobile homes. Some, like 76-year-old Jean-Pierre Gasnot of the Retro Camping Club of France, build their own vintage models.
