Rising Demand for Campervan Travel in Scotland

A High Court injunction has been granted against caravans placed on green belt land in Ashley Green. Buckinghamshire Council reported the unlawful activity began on April 2 on a site where a prior planning application had been refused. The injunction, issued on April 4, prohibits any further works, occupation, or bringing additional caravans and materials onto the land.

Experts note that rising UK motorhome demand coincides with owners underestimating long-term costs. Annual ownership expenses, excluding purchase, can reach £2,000–5,000 and include specialist insurance, storage, and fuel. Key factors are insurance premiums for larger models and off-site storage fees, ranging from £500 to over £1,500 per year.

An investigation is underway after three static caravans were moved onto the protected Whitewall Common in Magor on April 8. The site is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the activity may breach a High Court injunction obtained in February. Natural Resources Wales, Gwent Police and Monmouthshire County Council are conducting the investigation.

Authorities on the Isle of Wight will remove a caravan that has been parked for months on a main road in Newport, causing an obstruction. Having taken legal advice, the council is treating the trailer as a highway obstruction and will act under Section 149 of the Highways Act. Caravans have pitched on land beside a road in North Watford, initiating a legal process to move them on. As of April 10, three caravans and a 4X4 were present on the site. Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire Police stated they are working to resolve the situation through legal channels.
