Attorney Amir Eshel, 60, and his wife travel South America in Bonita, a German motorhome built on a 2003 Mercedes Sprinter chassis. They bought it in Paraguay for $60,000. The couple split the trip into legs: they fly to South America, travel for several weeks, leave the motorhome in a secure garage and return to their jobs and family in Israel. The vehicle is currently in Paraguay. In southern Chile's Patagonia, the fuel line came loose from the fuel pump; a truck driver stopped and his mechanic friend reconnected the hose with zip ties. Later, the motorhome was shipped on a ferry from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt to find a Mercedes garage. Eshel says the trip allows them to reach places beyond the standard Israeli backpacker route.
