Long Islanders can camp on the Atlantic coast for as little as $18 per night. Suffolk County operates four campgrounds with ocean access, open to nonresidents at a higher fee. Beach camping requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a generator or solar power, and a water tank. Reservations are taken 180 days in advance, but cancellations may free up spots.
