Popular destinations for winter motorhome trips

The rental platform CamperDays reports growing demand for winter trips to warm countries using motorhomes. Emerging destinations gaining popularity include Morocco, Costa Rica, and Chile, complementing classic options like Namibia and South Africa. These countries attract travelers with their developed road networks, mild climate, and diverse landscapes.

The CamperDays platform presented its 2026 trend index at the CMT trade fair in Stuttgart. An analysis of booking data shows growing interest in winter motorhome and camper van trips to long-haul destinations. While Australia and New Zealand remain top choices, demand is increasing for Morocco, Chile, Namibia, South Africa, and Costa Rica.

According to the CamperDays Trend Index 2026, Japan, Costa Rica, Iceland, Namibia, and Morocco are emerging as popular new destinations for camper travel. Japan's appeal is aided by a network of over a thousand 'Michi-no-Eki' roadside stations, while Morocco has seen a new camper station open in Casablanca. Windhoek, Namibia, is the world's most booked pickup location for camper rentals, and in Iceland, the average route covers approximately 1,800 kilometers over 10 days.
