A family from Shenyang saved over 10,000 yuan during a 23-day trip to Xinjiang. Other examples include a 10-day trip with accommodation costs under 300 yuan and a 7-day saving of 5,000 yuan.
Overnight costs in a camper are 10-30 yuan per night, including electricity and parking, while hotels in peak season cost 400-1,000 yuan per night. Savings come from electric air conditioning, free amenities at service stations, and no seasonal surcharges.
As a result, budget hotel revenues for the first week of summer fell more than 8% year-on-year. Authorities responded: in June 2026, nine ministries issued a document supporting the camping industry, including building campsites along scenic routes.
