European authorities are increasingly fining motorhome owners for exceeding maximum weight limits. Most motorhomes are homologated to 3.5 tonnes but often exceed this from the factory. Germany allows a 5% tolerance, while Austria has zero tolerance with fines up to 10,000 euros and a driving ban. Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands also have 5% tolerance; France fines from 135 euros per 500 kg over.
