On Saturday, April 25, 2026, more than 500 motorhomes and campervans occupied a section of the TF-1 highway on Tenerife. The convoy traveled from San Miguel de Abona to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The action was organized by the G3A Federation and the Tenerife Motorhome and Caravan Association (ACAT).
Protesters are opposing what they call "systematic persecution" by municipalities that impose height and time parking restrictions. Key demands include the repeal of parking bans, the creation of gray and black water disposal points (eco-points), and the adoption of unified rules distinguishing certified motorhomes from spontaneous van camping.
According to various sources, there are between 15,000 and 21,000 motorhomes registered in the Canary Islands, with over 5,000 on Tenerife alone. An additional 12,000 such vehicles arrive annually by ferry. The lack of an island-wide plan for service areas leads to fragmented local decisions. An example cited is the eviction of 30 motorhomes in Candelaria the previous weekend.
