Growing Popularity of RVs in the US

According to a survey by the RV Industry Association (RVIA), over 34 million Americans plan a spring RV trip in 2026, a 23% increase from the previous year. National parks and coastal destinations are the most popular choices, with pet-friendly travel influencing plans.

Rental Operator Data

The RV Rental Association (RVRA) survey confirms the trend: 60% of operators report increased bookings compared to last year. Rentals of 3–6 nights are most popular, and traditional family vacations remain the primary reason for renting.

Generational Differences

Interest in longer trips is growing. Generation Z tends to rent RVs more often, while Millennials and Generation X prefer to buy.

Will high gas prices limit summer sales of recreational vehicles?

High fuel prices have not yet significantly slowed sales of RVs, boats, and motorcycles, but the season is just beginning. Buyers are increasingly opting for lightweight trailers towable by small SUVs and trading in larger motorhomes for smaller models. Dealers report that fuel savings are a consideration but not a primary reason for avoiding purchases. The full impact of rising prices will become clearer over the next six weeks.
