On June 24, an RV caught fire and exploded on State Route 87 in the Round Valley area near Fountain Hills, Arizona. Driver Richard Yingling managed to exit the vehicle before the explosion.
The fire spread to dry brush. According to the U.S. Forest Service and FOX 10 Phoenix, about 30 acres burned. Azcentral.com reported the fire was contained at approximately 19 acres. Traffic was closed from 3:14 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (azcentral.com) or for two hours (FOX 10 Phoenix).
Firefighting units from Fountain Hills Fire Department, Tonto National Forest, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, as well as hotshot crews and aircraft, responded. Yingling lost all his savings and personal belongings; friends have set up a fundraiser.
