Multiple fatalities have occurred in South Korea due to carbon monoxide poisoning while using heating appliances in enclosed spaces like tents and vehicles during winter camping. In one incident in Taebaek, a couple was found dead in their vehicle, with a portable generator suspected as the source. An experiment showed carbon monoxide levels in a sealed tent can reach a lethal 1,600 ppm within 15 minutes of using a portable gas heater. Experts advise using sleeping bags and hot packs instead of heaters, and ensuring ventilation and carbon monoxide alarms if heaters are used.
