Motorhome stolen in Vilnius

Signs prohibiting campervan traffic have been installed in a large part of the resort town of Palanga. A family from Vilnius arriving in a campervan encountered the restriction. Resort officials say the signs are intended to prevent campervans from entering residential areas and coastal forests, which are not suitable for recreation with such vehicles.

A BNS article published on Infoerdve.lt describes a model in which owners rent out their unused motorhome through the service Kemperiai 365. The owner's annual income is stated at 8,000–11,000 euros excluding VAT, while a new mid-range motorhome costs 55,000–75,000 euros including VAT, with lease payments of 600–750 euros per month (7,200–9,000 euros per year). At a daily rate of 120–180 euros and 100 rental days per year, gross revenue would be 12,000–18,000 euros, but the source does not disclose administration fees, personal-use conditions, insurance excess or liability for wear, so profitability is not guaranteed.

On September 1, 2026, between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, a camper with license plate OP198 was stolen on Laukų Street in Tirkšliai, near the Baltic Petroleum gas station. The value of the stolen property is 17,800 euros. Security cameras recorded the camper being towed away during the day by a light-colored van. A Toyota HiAce has been converted into an off-road camper using running gear from a Land Cruiser 200, including four-wheel drive with low range and locking differentials. The vehicle features reinforced suspension, 300 mm of ground clearance, 35-inch Toyo Open Country tires, steel bumpers, underbody protection, a winch, and a snorkel. Inside, it has a power-operated pop-up roof, a sleeping area, a fold-out sofa, a pull-out kitchen with an induction hob, a fridge, an air fryer, a portable shower, and a 275-liter water tank. Power comes from a generator and a 200 Ah battery.

On Wednesday, a pre-trial investigation was launched at the Mazeikiai district police commissariat over a camper theft committed on Tuesday. According to preliminary police data, the camper, valued at 16,000 euros, was parked near the Baltic Petroleum gas station in Tirkšliai. On Tuesday at about 1 p.m. it was still in place, but by 10 p.m., when its owners returned, it was no longer there. Suspects are being identified; this year, five vehicle thefts have been registered in the district (only two by September last year), including one car theft.
