On Wednesday, August 19, in Alfena, municipality of Valongo (according to another source, Valengo), a 67-year-old man died when the motorhome he was repairing fell on him. The incident occurred on Rua Paz. According to the fire department, the victim was performing maintenance under the vehicle when the support holding the motorhome gave way.
Neighbors attempted to assist using a jack, but without success. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The body was handed over to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
According to new sources, the alert was received at 13:04, and rescuers found the man in cardiac arrest. Death was confirmed at the scene, and the body was transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Porto. It is believed the man was using a jack to lift the vehicle when the support gave way. Seven firefighters, two ambulances, members of the National Republican Guard, and an emergency vehicle were dispatched to the scene.
The victim was identified as 67-year-old José Soares, a former prison guard. He had bought the motorhome about two years ago and planned to travel with his wife next summer.
