A 20-year-old disqualified driver, Fairmont Leigh, overtook a campervan at excessive speed on a narrow road in Golden Bay, New Zealand, made an obscene gesture at tourists, and then crashed head-on into an oncoming campervan. After the crash, he got out and yelled at the tourists, 'What are you doing on my side of the road?' Leigh had five prior similar driving offences. Three months later, while on bail, he drove again, dangerously overtaking campervans and speeding, claiming he was late for a funeral. He was sentenced to three months' community detention and 12 months' supervision, and disqualified from driving for a further 12 months.
