Campervan crash in New Zealand
On 29 April 2026 around 14:00 on the Wānaka-Luggate highway, near the intersection with Ballantyne Rd, a campervan collided with another vehicle. The campervan overturned into a ditch, blocking one lane. Traffic was fully stopped in both directions, with drivers advised to detour via Ballantyne Rd. Three people sustained moderate injuries; two ambulances attended. The injured were reported in stable condition. By 15:30 the highway was closed again for cleanup.
Motorhome fires in the US
On 23 April on Interstate 77 in Carroll County, Virginia, a motorhome was completely destroyed by fire. Hillsville Fire Department arrived around 13:30 to find the vehicle fully engulfed, with flames spreading to nearby brush. Firefighters used two hoses to extinguish the blaze. The cause is believed to be mechanical. On 24 April in Burlington, North Carolina, firefighters extinguished a camper trailer fire on Anthony Street within 10 minutes of arrival. The trailer was destroyed; no injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
Bridge strikes
On 24 April in Glenville, New York, a Quebec driver struck a 10-foot railroad bridge on Maple Avenue with a 12-foot fifth-wheel camper. This was the third such collision in nine days. The driver was issued a citation for ignoring the height warning. No injuries were reported. Earlier, on 3 January in Canterbury, New Zealand, a campervan had its roof torn off under the Tinwald Viaduct, which has a clearance of 2.39 m — the most frequently struck railway bridge in the country. Authorities plan to install additional signage and markings.
