Timeline
- 4 June, around 22:45–23:20 — a campervan exploded and caught fire on Beaconsfield Street (also reported as Beconfield Street) in the Acomb area of York.
- After 23:20 — firefighters arrived to find the campervan ablaze and two parked cars partially melted.
- Around 23:40 — evacuated residents returned to their homes.
Aftermath
According to sources, three vehicles and two buildings, including a barber shop window, were damaged. Several homes were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Investigation
North Yorkshire Police arrested a 58-year-old local man on suspicion of arson. The suspect is in custody. The incident is being treated as isolated and not a threat to the public. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
