According to one source, the fire occurred on May 5, 2026, on Southwest 84th Avenue in the Sampson City area, near Stark. The camper was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived; they extinguished the blaze in 5–10 minutes but could not save the teenager. The boy stayed home due to illness, and his mother was at work in Gainesville.
