The Queenstown Lakes District Council has banned freedom camping at the Allenby Place carpark in Wānaka. The temporary ban, from January 23 to April 30, was implemented due to access and health and safety issues caused by the narrow entryway. Three designated parking spaces from Allenby Place will be temporarily relocated to the Wānaka Recreation Centre carpark for the duration of the ban.
