Ibiza dismantles makeshift caravan settlement

Spain's DGT has published an updated instruction PROT 2026/04 clarifying technical inspection rules for motorhomes and camper vans. For camper vans (category N) over 10 years old (registered before 2016), inspections are now required every six months. Failure to display the V-19 ITV sticker results in a €200 fine.

The Tarifa Traders Association (ACOTA) has issued a statement amid the debate over motorhome parking in the city. The organization insists on equal application of regulations across all economic and social sectors, not just motorhome tourism. ACOTA proposed creating designated areas for parking and overnight stays to regulate the flow of travelers and reduce conflicts with residents.

In the El Llano de Sacaba area of Malaga, Spain, an informal settlement of motorhomes, campervans, and caravans has formed. According to local residents, the number of people living there permanently or semi-permanently has grown significantly amid the affordable housing crisis. Among the inhabitants are people with stable jobs, including police officers, who cannot afford to rent an apartment. Residents say they are forced to stay there due to a lack of alternatives.

Nissan has updated its commercial van range for the Spanish market, introducing Townstar, Primastar, and Interstar models. The lineup now includes factory camper conversions with sleeping areas, kitchenettes, and storage systems. Vehicles are available with diesel and electric powertrains, including Townstar EV and Interstar-e. Commercial models come with a warranty of up to 5 years or 160,000 km.

Spain's DGT has published Instruction PROT 2026/04, introducing different MOT frequencies for motorhomes and campervans. Motorhomes over 10 years old must pass inspection annually, while campervans over 10 years old require inspection every six months. The update also clarifies parking rules and introduces a new road sign (S-128) for waste water disposal points.
