Residents of Saundersfoot (Pembrokeshire) and Tenby have raised concerns about camper vans and motorhomes parking on residential streets, especially during peak tourist seasons. Complaints include blocked access, long-term parking, waste disposal, and streets becoming 'unofficial campsites'.
County councillor Chris Williams reported the complaints and asked Pembrokeshire County Council to consider the issue, noting it may affect other communities. The council acknowledged the rise in such vehicles and the limited formal alternatives, noting that previous proposals such as the 'Pembs Stop' scheme were not implemented. Currently, only a trial parking area near the Fishguard ferry is in operation.
The county council noted that the issues are sporadic but intensify during peak periods, and acknowledged the lack of formal alternatives such as dedicated camper van parking, leading to vehicles being placed in unsuitable locations.
