Payment will be via a pay-by-phone app, with fines for non-compliance tied to license plates. From July 7, 2025, the EU General Safety Regulation II (GSR II) comes into force. All newly registered motorhomes must be equipped with intelligent speed assistance, driver drowsiness monitoring, alcohol lock pre-installation, and a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, tire pressure monitoring). Industry experts estimate the added cost per new motorhome at €1,000–€3,000. DIY van converters should register their vehicles before July 7 — after that date, even a used chassis will be treated as a new registration and must comply with all mandatory systems.
