Protests in Borgofranco
In Borgofranco, local business owners have opposed the municipality's plans to redevelop Piazza Balmetti into a guarded camper van parking area. The project, costing 150,000 euros and funded by the ministry, includes the installation of fencing and a barrier, as well as improved tourist services. Entrepreneurs fear it will deter visitors who fill their establishments during spring and summer.
Criticism in Castrocaro Terme
The opposition group Insieme per Crescere criticized the Castrocaro Terme administration's decision to introduce fees for camper van parking. They argue the site is neglected and that charging without service improvements is shortsighted. They noted that camper van owners contribute to the local economy by visiting restaurants and shops, and that free parking areas in Italy are often better equipped. Mayor Francesco Billi responded that the site is a civil protection facility and the fee is part of planned infrastructure upgrades, including new power columns.
Dispute in Civitavecchia
The Civitavecchia Camper Association claims the administration is ignoring its requests for dialogue regarding the exclusion of camper vans from parking on Via G. Pecorelli. The organization emphasizes that according to the Highway Code and Ministry clarifications, camper vans cannot be discriminated against based on height or length and have the right to park in car spaces. The association cites a recent ruling by the Tuscan Administrative Court, which deemed similar measures in Pisa discriminatory.
