Two Bulgarian nationals arrested for renting campers, falsely reporting them stolen abroad, and driving them to Sofia. Damage in the six-figure euro range. Earlier, Polish police used a spike strip to stop a 17-year-old who stole a motorhome in Munich.

Police in the Austrian state of Carinthia have arrested two Bulgarian nationals on suspicion of fraud involving campervan rentals. According to investigators, the men rented several campers, then reported them stolen abroad. In reality, the vehicles were driven to Sofia, where they were used or sold. The damage is estimated at a six-figure euro sum. European arrest warrants have been issued.

Earlier, on the night of February 19, a motorhome was stolen in Munich. Polish police stopped it in the town of Lubawka using a spike strip. The driver, a 17-year-old suspect, had ignored border controls. The vehicle's value is in the mid-five-figure range. Munich police are investigating a series of motorhome thefts possibly linked to organized crime.

Camping boom in Vorarlberg with more overnight stays and new rules

Campgrounds in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg recorded an increase in overnight stays of over 4% last year. Authorities plan to amend the law: the share of mobile homes and bungalows on sites may rise from 30% to 50%, and their maximum size from 50 to 60 sq m. A uniform ban on wild camping, similar to Tyrol's model, is also under discussion.

Poland proposes to exempt motorhomes and caravans from e-TOLL

A bill has been submitted to the Polish Sejm to amend the Public Roads Act, proposing to exempt motorhomes (over 3.5 t GVW) and passenger cars towing caravans from the e-TOLL system when used for individual tourism. Currently, such vehicles are treated as trucks and charged between PLN 0.34 and 0.80 per kilometer. The bill still needs to pass through the full legislative process, leaving little time before the 2026 summer holidays.
