Motorhome meeting in Oelde: Globetrotter XLi fans come from all over Germany

German company Roadsurfer, founded in 2016 by four friends, has grown from a startup with 25 Volkswagen camper vans in Munich to an international network with nearly 100 locations in 16 countries and a fleet of 10,000 vehicles. About 420,000 people have used the service. The company now employs around 1,000 people, and the average booking lead time has increased to 110 days, which management says reflects a shift from spontaneous trips to planned annual vacations.

Dethleffs, the Isny im Allgäu-based caravan manufacturer, has confirmed that it will suspend production of the Camper, Nomad and Beduin Scandinavia ranges for the 2027 model year. The final batch will roll off the line in autumn 2026. Only the entry-level c'joy, c'go and c'go up models will remain in the 2027 lineup. Completely revised versions are expected for the 2028 model year. The reasons for the pause have not been disclosed, but are likely linked to cost-cutting and allowing dealers to clear inventory amid a post-pandemic market saturation.
